Marianne Brandt is known as the only woman to have worked in the Bauhaus Metallwerkstatt, a school of design founded in 1916, that allowed young artistically gifted men and women to bring art, architecture and craftsmanship into alliance.
These ashtrays are a faithful reproduction by Alessi under licence of the Bauhaus-Archive, Berlin.
Bauhaus was a German school of art founded by Walter Gropius in 1919. From the outset they specialised in the avant-garde and radical designs influenced by the emerging techniques in printing, photography, graphic design and architecture.
